Travis Pastrana finishes sixth in Toyota All-Star Showdown

Travis Pastrana avoided numerous crashes and finished sixth thanks to a daring three wide pass with two laps to go in Saturday's Toyota All-Star Showdown at Irwindale Speedway.

The All-Star Showdown, which features the bet drivers from the K&N East and West Pro Series -- think the NASCAR level below the Camping World Truck Series --  was Pastrana's first NASCAR event.

The 225 lap race was divided into three segments (100 laps, 100 laps and 25 laps) and Pastrana had to take action to avoid three crashes in the first segment. In one of them, he dented his right front fender, but the team was able to repair it and Pastrana was able to work his way back up through the field.

After the race, Pastrana was visibly excited.

"This sport is so much fun, it's super competitive, but I have so much to learn," Pastrana told SPEED.

"If this is our starting point -- hopefully it's our starting point, then we'll continue to learn from here."

Thanks to a giant crash that took out leader Paulie Harraka and led to a rough-driving penalty for second place Derek Thorn in the final segment, Pastrana was able to start ninth on the final restart with nine laps to go.

Jason Bowles won the incredibly messy race, which featured 12 cautions and didn't conclude until almost 2:30 AM ET Sunday morning. DJ Kennington, who has driven in the Nationwide Series, finished second.
