Frank Stoddard wants to run the whole Sprint Cup season

Sorry for being so skeptical about new team announcements. We want the Sprint Cup Series to have as many teams as possible, and it would be great if some smaller teams could compete with the big boys on a semi-regular basis.

Sure, that's a pipe dream at this point and will continue to be for the foreseeable future. The economic climate, as we all know, is still brutal and sponsorship dollars are very tough to come by. Add in a limited budget, and it's a recipe for futility.

That's why it will be a success story if the new team that former Cup crew chief Frank Stoddard wants to run competes for the majority of the 2011 season. Stoddard was the crew chief for the No. 26 Latitude 43 Motorsports team last season.

From National Speed Sport News:

“I’m really eager to get this off the ground,” said Stoddard. “It’s a great time to enter the sport. We’ll just have to wait and see where we can go from here. My hope is to take this team to a competitive level and put together some respectable runs with the limited resources we have in place. One never knows, with our determination and just a little bit of funding we could definitely improve our chances on the track.”

However, it's debatable if Stoddard's team has gotten as far off the ground as the Wright Brothers did. He has no driver and according to a tweet by USA Today's Seth Livingstone, will have financial help from U.S. Chrome. However much financial help that may be is still to be seen. U.S. Chrome was a sponsor for Stoddard when he and Boris Said ran the No. 08 Ford.

We'll see what happens at Daytona. If Stoddard's team can sneak into the show, their future for the first races of the Cup schedule may be secure. If it doesn't, well, the chances of success are even smaller.
