Red Bull clips Scott Speed's wings and releases him

Scott Speed had long been viewed as the odd man out for Red Bull Racing in 2011 and Speed confirmed via Twitter that he and Red Bull have parted ways.

On 11/24. As it happend RedBull sent me a Termination Letter, not huge surprise

And in an awful double-whammy, Speed said in the same tweet that his mother had lung cancer.

With Kasey Kahne's arrival and Brian Vickers' return, Speed was left without a seat at Red Bull. Vickers, who has been sidelined since May because of blood clots, is scheduled to be back in the No. 83 car for Red Bull in 2011. Kahne drove the No. 83 in the final five races of 2010 after leaving Richard Petty Motorsports and will fill Speed's seat in 2011 before moving to Hendrick Motorsports in 2012.

Speed and Red Bull have been together since Speed won a driver search program. In 2006, Speed became the first American since Michael Andretti to drive in Formula 1, racing for Scuderia Toro Rosso.

After being released in 2007 from his Formula 1 duties, Speed came over to NASCAR where he won a Camping World Truck Series race in 2008, his only win so far in any of NASCAR's top three series.

In 76 Cup starts, Speed had just one top-five finish and only three top 10s. He finished 35 and 30th, respectively, in his two full Cup seasons.
