A brake pad came loose from a race car Sunday at Texas Motor Speedway and flew eight stories into the air before smashing through a window of the exclusive Speedway Club, injuring two fans. The incident occurred just after the NASCAR Sprint Cup race ended. Speedway spokesman Mike Zizzo told the Associated Press that the injuries weren't life threatening.
Zizzo said he couldn't release any additional information on the injured fans because of federal privacy laws.
CBS 11 News in Dallas-Fort Worth reported that witnesses said a brake pad from the No. 77 Dodge driven by Sam Hornish Jr. flew off the car and smashed through the window. "Everyone thought it was a gunshot," eyewitness Linda Gregoire told the television station. "It scared the thunder out of us."
