Speed Shifts

ARCA QUALIFYING - Ty Dillon set the standard early, and made it stick. Dillon, an 18-year-old ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards rookie, drove a qualifying lap in 48.509 seconds (185.533 mph) to win the Menards Pole Award presented by Ansell for Saturday's Lucas Oil Slick Mist 200 at Daytona International Speedway.

Dillon was the 10th of 47 drivers to attempt a qualifying lap, and his time is the fastest ARCA qualifying lap at Daytona since February 11, 2001, when Kirk Shelmerdine qualified for the pole at 187.352 mph.

FUEL INJECTION: Following NASCAR?s announcement today regarding the partnership with Freescale Semiconductor and McLaren Electronic Systems to develop and integrate fuel injection systems into the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series for the 2012 season, Chevrolet and key partner Earnhardt Childress Racing (ECR)/Richard Childress Racing (RCR) issued the following statements:

Statement by Jim Campbell, U.S. Vice President of Performance Vehicles and Motorsports: ?We are pleased to see NASCAR?s announcement regarding the incorporation of fuel injection in 2012. One of our key priorities at Chevrolet is to incorporate relevant technologies into our race cars that link to our production cars. Now, our focus is to work with NASCAR, our teams and engineers to prepare for the implementation of fuel injection targeting 2012.?
Statement by Danny Lawrence, ECR Trackside Manager: ?We?ve been working on a number of different fuel injection units at ECR to be prepared in every direction when NASCAR announced its decision. We?ve had success with our current fuel injection system in the Grand-Am Series Daytona Prototype division, as recently as last month at the Rolex 24 Hours of Daytona.  ECR has been working closely with General Motors, which is known to have the best systems out there, so now that NASCAR has announced its decision, we?re ready to start hammering on it. RCR/ECR was fortunate enough to earn the first wins ever with the Chevrolet SB2 engine and the R07 engine so our goal is to keep that ?first? streak alive with our fuel injected Chevrolet.?

EVERNHAM AND AUTO FAIR: Three-time championship-winning NASCAR crew chief, former NASCAR team owner and car enthusiast Ray Evernham has been named the Official Ambassador for the April 7-10 Food Lion AutoFair at Charlotte Motor Speedway.

Evernham, CEO of Ray Evernham Enterprises, will participate in an autograph session during the weekend and will serve as emcee for the Best in Show Car Club Awards on Sunday afternoon. Ray Evernham Enterprises will also have booth space in the Manufacturers Midway, located in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series garage and Evernham will display several of his classic cars in the Showcase Garage, located in the NASCAR Nationwide Series garage.
