Kimi Raikkonen to make NASCAR debut driving for Kyle Busch

Former Formula 1 World Champion Kimi Raikkonen will make his NASCAR debut driving for Kyle Busch Motorsports in the Camping World Truck Series at Charlotte on May 20. This contradictsreports that he had signed a deal to drive for a team owned by Foster Gillett, the son of George Gillett, who defaulted on the loan he used to purchase Gillett Evernham Motorsports.

Raikkonen will run "a limited number" of events in the Truck Series for Busch.

"We are honored that Kimi Raikkonen, a former Formula 1 World Drivers' Champion and proven winner, has chosen to start his career in NASCAR with Kyle Busch Motorsports,"Busch saidin a release. "Adding one of the most talented drivers in the world is a continuation of building a team of proven winners and champions at KBM. I look forward to assisting in Kimi's transition to NASCAR as both an owner and teammate."

By joining the team that won the owner's points title in 2010, Raikkonen will immediately jump into top equipment, something that was far from a given had he driven for a new team. Raikkonen will test for Busch after the race in Martinsville in preparation for his debut.
