Jeff Burton's gonna be a TV movie star! Or, well, he'll have a cameo appearance, whichever.
This weekend sees the airing of "Change of Plans," a made-for-TV flick starring Claire Huxtable and some "American Idol" contestant I've never heard of. Burton has a quick cameo, though hopefully he gets a line or two in there. Here's the synopsis of the flick, which is underwritten by Wal-Mart and Procter & Gamble as part of their determinedly family friendly entertainment:
When Sally Danville (Brooke White, "American Idol") finds out that her best friend from college died in a tragic accident while serving in the Peace Corps, Sally also learns that she has been named the legal guardian of her friend's four children – three of whom were adopted from third-world countries. Now Sally and her husband, Jason (Joe Flanigan, "Stargate: Atlantis"), must quickly learn to parent this instant family and help the kids deal with culture clashes and life in America. The story is both humorous and heartwarming, revealing how fulfilling life can be when you look beyond your own plans and invest in the lives of others.
Well, that sounds ... targeted. (Or, since this is co-sponsored by Wal-Mart, perhaps I should say "focused.") It's not for everybody, obviously, but at least it'll be easier to understand than "Inception."
Anyway, Burton's got a cameo, but as you can see from the photo, it looks like he'll be playing himself. Too bad; would've loved to see him as the psychopathic bus driver hauling the kids around town. (Also, since this is on FOX, we can expect to see Burton's appearance heralded with a large graphic pointing at his head, perhaps with a Darrell Waltrip intro.)
"Change of Plans" airs Saturday night at 8/7c on FOX. Watch it and report back, won't you?
