Lynyrd Skynyrd playing a NASCAR race? That'll never work!

When you're promoting a NASCAR race, you're always taking a chance that your chosen entertainment won't quite resonate with your fanbase. (Pocono's choice to bring in the Bolshoi Ballet a few years back remains a head-scratcher.) Still, it's tough to imagine a more perfect entertainment coup than the one announced Wednesday morning:

Lynyrd Skynyrd is playing Atlanta Motor Speedway during September's NASCAR race.

You want to talk about two fanbases that are virtually indistinguishable from one another? I dare you to find one person who likes one but not the other. Skynyrd's going to play a full-length concert -- none of this three-songs-and-get-off-the-stage silliness -- as part of AMS's "Fast Cars and Guitars" prerace festivities on Sunday, Sept. 4.

Lynyrd Skynyrd. NASCAR. On September 4, AMS is going to be the most Southern place on the entire planet.
