Drifting In The Wet (Videos)

Last Sunday here at Ebisu, it was a poor missile drifters dream come true... RAIN ALL DAY!

Some people hate it and some people love it, but drifting missiles in the wet, for guys like Chris Dejager and me is the perfect scenario.

Tires last longer, its easier on the cars, its cooler on the drivers, cars slide more, its a little more un-nerving.. what more could you ask for?

So I packed my Drift X170 camera and headed to Ebisu to fire up the good 'ol Ceffy and hit the tracks for some rain battles with Chris.

You can always expect some carnage on rainy days at Ebisu so taking a camera to capture the thrills and spills is a must!

And here is a little bit of footage from the day... Lucky my camera is water proof.. and shock proof which I tested out with a bit of off-roading at the end of this video! (Ebisu school course)

And this one also with a little off-roading right at the end :) I just couldn't seem to stick to Chris no matter how hard I pushed. My line was off but at least I know now so I'll practice the right way next time. (Ebisu Drift Land)

All this footage was taken with my awesome X170 Drift action camera and RAM suction mount. Love it!

More to come so stay wired!

G1GP 2010 Rd3. Results & Series Wrap Up

The gaijin drift 2010 G1GP season ended last friday November 12th with 3 round on Ebisu's nishi short drift course.

By far this last event was the biggest and best display of cars and drivers since G1 started exactly this time last year on the very same course.

Roughly 45 drivers in total entered to compete in this final round - quite less than the anticipated 72 which the event organizers Team Orange weren't not too pleased about.

Still, 45 world class drivers came out to have fun and battle for the 1st place trophy in the best place on earth!

Who's this? None other than yours truly! Disco Stu. Dino always seems to catch me putting on stickers. I came in 13th place overall. You can watch some onboard footage of me from the day here.

Andy from PowerVehicles.com played a big part in organizing he event and supplying cars for a lot of the drivers. Here he is in his workhorse JZX90 looking a little worse for wear but still pumping out crazy smoke.

Chris Dejager was in fine form all day in his trusty S14 silvia.

One of the prettiest cars on the track is Emily from PowerVehicles.com 's pink S14 kouki! Emily came in 16th place on the day. Emily also enters the ladies D1 venus series in this car.

John Dreyer was out again in his police spec R32 skyline. Looks like he has been in one too many high-speed chases that didn't end so well.

Another Aussie who came back for more is Leigh Pidwell and his purple/maroon JZX 90. Leigh finsihed in 4th place after knocking out Andy Gray in the top 8 battle.

2 french waiters escaped from the restaurant to come check out the action. Just kidding. JC on the right was out in his newly acquired and very clean S14 silvia. He placed 3rd in the novice class.

Daigo Saito showed up carrying this V8 powered 240SX that he purchased from the United States. Love the growl of the V8 sound. He did a few practice laps with one group of gaijins.

Because of the large number of drivers, they split up the competition into PRO and NOVICE class. These are the top 6 from the novice class. My mate Dave Lawrie from JPP on the gold coast just scraped in in 6th place (far left).

Great effort from Chris Dejager who walked away winner of round 3 and overall G1GP 2010 points champion! His prizes for winning the 2010 series included: A custom embroidered BRIDE bucket seat and a D1GP license handed to him by Mana P!! Congrats Chris!

The final results from the PRO class. Good to see a mix from more countries than just AUS!

A big thanks to Team Orange, Powervehicles, Speedhunters, Zenky Racing, all the drivers and other participants for making this the best round of G1 yet!

Looking forward to what 2011 will bring! Hopefully will see you there too!

Many 2010 Chase drivers struggle in 2011 season opener

The Daytona 500 can mean very little when it comes to a 36-race season. Just look at Tony Stewart. He blew an engine just a few laps in to the 2002 Daytona 500 and went on to win the Cup championship that year.

But that was with the old points system. We've got the new 43-1 points system in place, where last place pays just one point. Will that mean a bad finish will hurt more? A bunch of 2010 Chase drivers are about to find out thanks to their performances in the Daytona 500 on Sunday.

Kevin Harvick (42nd): One of the favorites for the Daytona 500 thanks to his two plate wins in 2010 and the dominance of the Earnhardt-Childress engine program saw his engine go up in smoke 22 laps in to the 500. Harvick finished 42nd and was back in Charlotte with 40 laps to go. While Harvick probably liked having the evening free, he only earned two points.

Matt Kenseth (34th) and Greg Biffle (35th): Both were caught up in the 14-car pileup in Turns 3 and 4, but both also made it back out onto the racetrack to crash again. Kenseth wrecked after he had to check up for Joey Logano, and Biffle got into his back bumper, sending Kenseth head on into the outside wall of the tri-oval. Later, Biffle got caught up in yet another crash.

Jeff Gordon (28th) and Jimmie Johnson (27th): Gordon and Johnson were also caught up in the huge crash but were able to make it back out earn a few more points. The big crash was actually Gordon's second incident of the day after he suffered some front-end damage after he got into the back of Robby Gordon.

Jeff Burton (36th): Harvick's RCR teammate, Burton also saw his engine expire despite his temps not reaching astronomical levels. Burton won Thursday's second Gatorade Duel race and lived up to his billing as one of the favorites for the 500 when he was on the track, running up front with teammate Clint Bowyer. However, he only made it 92 laps.

Denny Hamlin (21st) and Clint Bowyer (17th): Hamlin looked like he and Ryan Newman had the Noah's Ark tandem to beat as the laps were winding down, but he was simply caught in the wrong place at the wrong time when Robby Gordon came back on track after being forced down to the apron. Hamlin got caught between Ryan Newman and the wall. (Newman, coincidentally enough, was the driver that Hamlin was trying to pass when he went below the yellow line in the Budweiser Shootout.)

Bowyer had one of the cars to beat and charged to the front with Kyle Busch, but he also had nowhere to go in the crash with Hamlin, Newman and Dale Earnhardt Jr.

Tony Stewart: Yeah, Smoke probably doesn't belong here because he finished 13th, but he did restart on the front row for the green-white-checker, after all. Before the final restart, Stewart had to be considered the favorite to win, especially with Trevor Bayne on his inside and Mark Martin behind him. However, Stewart couldn't get going and he and Martin couldn't get hooked up. By the time the white flag waved, Stewart wasn't within sniffing distance of the lead.

C-a-c: 'Sure, Mr. Edwards! A knuckle sandwich sounds delicious!'

Trevor Bayne gets congratulations from Carl Edwards and David Ragan. What do you think's passing between these gentlemen? Give us your best guess.

After the jump, Jimmie Johnson and Denny Hamlin give some race advice to newcomer Jeff Gordon.

Furiousd:
Jimmie: "Jeff, I swear if you call me 'Junior's new roomate' one more time, you're gonna get the back of my hand."

Michael:
Hey Jeff, tell "Slingblade" over here that I don't care if he likes the way I talk.

Razz:
Jimmie's frustration begins to show as he again has to slap someone awake in the middle of his thrilling drive for five story.

Geneva 2011: Volkswagen Giugiaro Go! Concept is a sharply designed, futuristic MPV

Volkswagen Giugiaro Go Concept
Volkswagen Giugiaro Go Concept - Click above for high-res image gallery

Now that Italdesign Giugiaro is part of the larger Volkswagen Group, the famed design house has worked up a pair of VW-badged concepts for the 2011 Geneva Motor Show. In addition to the smaller Tex hatchback, Giugiaro has created the Go! MPV, giving us a glimpse at what a people-mover for The People could look like in the future.

Like the Tex, the Go! rides on Volkswagen's new modular transverse architecture which could accommodate a wide range of powertrain options. Here, the Go! is powered by the automaker's Blue-e-motion EV technology, and according to Volkswagen, the concept can travel about 150 miles on electric power alone.

The Go! is full of interesting design quirks, such as rear doors that push backwards before sliding back parallel to the vehicle, a large glass greenhouse and a high seating position. See for yourself in our gallery of high-resolution live shots below.
